7 Days In Morocco Itinerary from Casablanca

Day 1: Welcome to Casablanca – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes

Your driver-guide meets you at your accommodation in Casablanca in the morning. The first visit is the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. It is also one of the few in Morocco that welcome non-Muslim visitors. Entry is by guided visit only, at fixed times, and you should cover your shoulders and knees. Confirm the current schedule and fee before you travel.

After lunch, the road turns inland to Meknes, an imperial capital under Sultan Moulay Ismail. Next comes Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the best-known Roman site in the country. Its foundations and floor mosaics show how a provincial town was laid out. You reach Fes in the evening, have dinner, and sleep at a hotel or riad.

Day 2: Fes Medina and City Tour

Day 2 is a full day in Fes, with no long drive. Fes el-Bali, the old walled medina, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the largest car-free urban zones in the world. Your guide leads you through its lanes, past workshops where metalworkers, weavers, and woodcarvers still practice their trades.

A viewpoint above the Chouara tanneries shows how leather is dyed in open stone vats, a method used for centuries. The afternoon covers the newer districts of the city. Then you return to your hotel or riad.

Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga

This travel day changes the scenery from green hills to rock and sand. The road climbs into the Middle Atlas after Fes. Ifrane comes first, a mountain town with alpine-style houses and tidy gardens. Midelt follows, then the long descent through the Ziz Valley, a river corridor lined with palm groves.

Erfoud is known for fossil-rich stone, which local workshops cut and polish. If your day matches a market day, a short walk through the souk at Rissani is worth the time. You reach Merzouga by evening and sleep at a hotel.

Day 4: Explore Merzouga Dunes

After breakfast, you drive to Khamlia, a small village where Gnawa musicians perform songs rooted in sub-Saharan traditions. Next, you explore the Erg Chebbi dunes and meet nomad families who live in the region.

Late in the afternoon, you ride camels across the dunes at sunset to reach your desert camp. A campfire dinner and a night in a nomad-style tent complete the day.

Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Sunrise is the reason for the early start. You watch the light move across the dunes, then ride camels back to Merzouga for a shower and breakfast. The drive then leads west through Rissani and Tinghir to Todra Gorge, where limestone walls rise to roughly 300 meters.

You have lunch at the gorge and can walk beside the river or take a short hike. The last leg brings you to the Dades Valley, where you have dinner and sleep at a hotel.

Day 6: Dades Valley – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

The route follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, named for the fortified villages along its path. Kalaat M’Gouna sits in the Rose Valley, which blooms in spring. Ait Ben Haddou comes next, an earthen fortified village that UNESCO lists as a World Heritage site. Film crews have used it as a location for several productions.

In the afternoon, you cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka pass and descend into Marrakech for the night.

Day 7: Marrakech to Casablanca

This is the last day of your 7 days in Morocco itinerary from Casablanca, the drive back to Casablanca starts and takes about three hours. We drop you at your hotel or the airport. A flight in the evening or the next day gives you a comfortable margin.

Frequently asked questions:

How many days do you need in Morocco?

Seven days covers the main cities and the Sahara if you accept long drives. With ten days or more, you get shorter driving days and more time at each stop.

Is the tour suitable for families and older travelers?

Many families and older travelers take this route. Days 3 and 6 involve long drives, so tell us about your group and we can adjust the stops and pace.

How far is Casablanca from Fes by road?

The direct drive takes about three and a half to four hours. On day 1, you also visit the Hassan II Mosque, Meknes, and Volubilis, so the full day includes around five hours of driving.

Is 7 Days in Morocco Enough?

Seven days is enough to see the main regions of Morocco if you accept some long drives. The country is larger than most first-time visitors expect, and the Sahara sits a full day’s drive from the nearest big city. This 7 day Morocco tour from Casablanca solves the problem by connecting each region in one loop, so you rarely retrace your route.

Casablanca makes a practical starting point because many international flights land there. You can begin the tour soon after you arrive and return to the same city for your flight home.
