This day trip to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah from Marrakech will take you to one of Morocco’s most important historical locations: the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. The excursion will begin when we come to pick you up from your preferred meeting location in the morning, before we start driving through the majestic High Atlas Mountains. On our way there, you will get to enjoy scenic views of all the scattered Berber villages of the area, with their green cultivated lands and their mountainous landscapes. Once we cross the highest mountain pass in Morocco, Tizin Tichka (2260 meters high), we will finally arrive at our destination, which is located on top of a hill overlooking the Ouarzazate River.
The Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is important because it is the most well-preserved fortified castle in Morocco, being a perfect example of Moroccan southern architecture at its finest. For that reason, the Kasbah has attracted a huge number of film directors over the years, choosing it as their filming location of choice. This has resulted in many international movies being shot at Ait Ben Haddou such as The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and many more. The Kasbah today is open to tourists and visitors, so you will get to walk around its streets and buildings to experience the rich history it carries.
We will have lunch in the Kasbah, then we will continue our day trip for about 30 minutes to reach the “Hollywood of Morocco,” Ouarzazate city. This city earned its nickname for being home to the biggest and most important movie studios in the country: the Atlas Studios. We will visit these studios, as well as other kasbahs inside Ouarzazate like the Kasbah of Taourirt and the Kasbah of Tifoultoute. After walking all over the city and enjoying its cinematic charm, we will finally head back to Marrakech in the evening to end our Day Trip to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah.
Absolutely. Guests can wander the streets, explore the buildings, and immerse themselves in the rich history and architecture.
You will explore the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s best-preserved fortified castles. The site has served as a filming location for famous movies like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Lawrence of Arabia.
The Kasbah is about 190 km from Marrakech, around a 3.5-hour drive through the High Atlas Mountains. The scenic journey includes views of Berber villages and the Tizi n’Tichka pass, Morocco’s highest mountain pass at 2,260 meters.
