From Fes
This Chefchaouen day trip from Fes will be one of the most fun and enjoyable Morocco day trips there are, since it will take you to the depths of the Rif Mountains to explore a town like no other! The excursion will start at 8 in the morning when we come to pick you up from your accommodation in Fes, to start driving north towards the scenic and green Rif Mountains.
The drive itself will be an important and enjoyable part of the journey, as it allows you to admire the pretty little Berber villages and green natural landscapes. From far away, the whole city of Chefchaouen looks like a giant piece of precious sapphire — a beautiful blue dot nestled in the Rif Mountains.
We will then finally arrive at Chefchaouen, a town that was established in the late 14th century to serve as a fortress to fight the Portuguese. The name Chefchaouen actually translates to “horns” in Berber, referencing the two mountain peaks between which the town lies. This location offers Chefchaouen a breathtaking view overlooking the neighboring mountains and forests — but that’s only the beginning of its charm.
The city is world-famous for the vibrant blue color that paints its streets and buildings. The locals maintain this iconic blue aesthetic while adding their own touches of color, decoration, and street art. In addition, Chefchaouen’s architecture is a beautiful blend of Arab, Andalusian, and Jewish influences, giving the town a unique and unmatched charm.
You’ll wander through the narrow streets of Chefchaouen’s old Medina, interacting with the kind locals and learning more about their peaceful lifestyle. You’ll find an abundance of handmade artisanal products, including wool Djellabas — the city’s specialty. This Medina truly represents Morocco’s diverse artisanal culture, and it’s impossible to leave without picking up a souvenir or two!
We will ensure that you visit every important monument and landmark in the city. After a day full of wonder and discovery, we will drive back to Fes and drop you off at your accommodation, marking the end of our enjoyable Chefchaouen day trip from Fes.
Known as the “Blue Pearl of Morocco,” Chefchaouen is famous for its blue-painted streets, charming Andalusian architecture, and relaxed atmosphere. It’s a photographer’s dream and a peaceful escape from busy cities.
You’ll explore the old Medina, the historic Kasbah, the main square (Outa El Hammam), the Spanish Mosque viewpoint, and the local markets filled with artisanal crafts and wool Djellabas.
Lunch is not usually included, but there will be time to enjoy a local meal in one of Chefchaouen’s traditional restaurants overlooking the blue alleys or mountains.
