DAY TRIP TO VOLUBILIS AND MEKNES

This Fes to Volubilis Day Trip will take you back to ancient times and allow you to immerse yourself in Morocco’s rich and diverse history. We will start by picking you up from your preferred meeting location in Fes, then drive through the scenic Saiss plains before arriving at our first destination: Volubilis.

Volubilis is one of the most important archaeological sites in Morocco, as it once served as a Roman capital back during the 3rd century BC. The town now contains well-preserved ruins from this time period and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Walking through the ancient city and being surrounded by the remnants of its buildings will give you a vivid sense of what life was like back then.

Among the most famous ruins, you will find the Temple of Venus, the Main Basilica, the Triumphal Arch, public baths, and the beautifully detailed Roman mosaics. These structures stand as witnesses to the social and economic prosperity the Romans once enjoyed here — and you’ll have the chance to explore them all.

After discovering Volubilis, we will move on to our next destination: the holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoune. Located only about 5 kilometers away, this spiritual site lies atop the Zerhoune hill and holds great importance for Moroccans. It is home to the mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, the founder of the first Islamic dynasty in Morocco. You’ll have time to explore the charming main square and feel the peaceful atmosphere that fills this sacred town.

Last but not least, our final destination will be the imperial city of Meknes. Known as the Ismaili capital, Meknes once served as the kingdom’s capital during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail. This city is a perfect historical gem that showcases the grandeur of an imperial past — with its massive walls, monumental gates, and impressive granaries.

We will visit key landmarks including the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the majestic Bab Mansour Gate, and the vast Sahrij Souani basin. After a day filled with discovery and cultural enrichment, we will have lunch in Meknes before returning to Fes in the evening. This marks the end of our Fes to Volubilis and Meknes Day Trip.
